Originally founded as American Refrigerator Company (ARC) in 1906, ARC was the Philadelphia area’s largest distributor and installer of case refrigeration systems in local supermarkets. Through relationships developed in the supermarket industry, the principals of American Refrigerator saw an opportunity to develop and invest in grocery-anchored, community shopping centers.
In the early 1990’s ADCO, American Development Company was formed to oversee and manage it’s growing real estate portfolio. By the late 1990’s, American Refrigerator Company ceased operations and ADCO, American Development Company, became a full-time real estate company. Today, ADCO owns and manages a real estate portfolio consisting of approximately one million square feet of shopping centers, net-leased pad sites, apartments, flex industrial, hospitality, and mixed-use properties.
